Summer Lovin: Lie to Me

I'm not a huge summer series groupie, for whatever reason. A lot of times, when I'm able to pry myself away from work, I'll sit and watch trashy VH1 reality shows:

Tough Love Couples, anyone?

BUT. I was able to get into one really great show this summer. In its second season, Lie to Me is really starting to pick up its pace and find its voice and really be able to bring viewers into the life of Dr. Cal Lightman, a psychologist that specializes in body language and face expressions.

He founds the Lightman Group, a private company yet has a special relationship with the FBI (especially in the form of Agent Reynolds, played by Mekhi Phifer), and together, or really- with Lightman leading the way in full force, solve all sorts of fun crime mysteries.

Also, there's Dr. Gillian Foster who plays great opposite Lightman as his colleague or better half. Of course, as with any show, you want them to get together. It will be a great, or possibly annoying, question of "will they or won't they" throughout the series.

sidenote: Watch season 2, episode 21- Darkness and Light for the beginning scene where Foster and Cal play a married couple and make out passionately as a part of their gig. Its quite hilarious, and hopefully a sign of events to come? We can only hope.

Anddddddd there's Eli Locker and Ria Torres. I guess for the show they're OK but kind useless characters in my opinion, who are only there to add their 2 cents in every case and then have pointless plot lines of them two hooking up once and having it be awkward.

Anywayz apparently it was quite a struggle to get Tim Roth to play Cal Lightman. He's had a pretty extensive career, getting nominated for an Academy Award for Planet of the Apes and being involved in other films such as Pulp Fiction and The Incredible Hulk. Quite impressive, and apparently it took a billion years to get him to sign on, but honestly, I couldn't be more thrilled with the choice. He's amazing.

However, I can't help but to find it very similar to ANOTHER british, fast-talking wise guy on television who already is able to solve many mysteries on his own, with a bunch of kiss-ass followers trailing directly behind him:

because, lets be serious people. LIE TO ME is amazingly similar to HOUSE. Except honestly, in my opinion, new, fresher and better.

I can't help but feel as though I'm done with HOUSE, and can move onward and upward to a new Brit in my life.

Besides, all television shows today are taken from older television. Family Guy is All in the Family, 30 Rock is Mary Tyler Moore, Parks and Rec is The Office which is taken from... The Office.

So that's fine. And with its new season premiering November 10th I couldn't be more excited. Its a great crime thriller that will have you addicted in no time.

Jerry Jerry Jerry!

SO. Why wasn't I blogging this summer? Because I was too busy being a hotshot working for the Jerry Springer and Steve Wilkos Show. The experience was very interesting to say the least. I got to work VERY closely with many of the guests, and got some GREAT life stories.

My favorite definitely have to be this one quite feisty woman who was SUPER skinny and SUPER blonde but had SUPER wrinkles and talked about how she just up and left for california and stayed there by herself for a month. "I like bein' all by myself sometimes," she said in a thick southern accent.

she then proceeded to go on stage and kick the shit out of another girl. hilarious.

But I have to say my favorite part of working on the show is everyone who I worked with. Very nice, very intelligent and VERY hardworking people who were nothing but extremely nice to me, the poor intern.

While the show was still filming in Chicago, Vh1 aired a short lived series about what it was like to work for the Springer Show, and I have to say, its quite an accurate depiction. The funny thing is, I watched this show when I was younger, and WHO KNEW that I would actually do it.

BUT WATCH THIS. Its called, The Springer Hustle.

For the record: Jerry Springer and Steve Wilkos are the nicest guys ever.

FUN FACT: I got Rachelle lunch frequently, and saw Selina a lot, who I recognized from the show which was cool.

ALSO. If you haven't check out Steve Wilkos yet, you really should. He does a lot of really intense, controversial topics which come from true stories.

Will Arnett = love of my life

YES. My heart fluttered when I heard that Will Arnett was starring in a NEW sitcom, RUNNING WILDE, created by Mitch Hurwitz. Hurwitz, if you can remember tv fans, is the genius behind Arrested Development, a jumpstart to Arnett's career.

Everything Arnett does is hilarious. He has this amazing sense of humor along with a great sense of physical comedy.

Amy Poehler better watch out.

I originally fell in love with him whenever I'd catch him on Conan, two of my great comedy loves in one place? I say yes.

So we have two great forces from AD (not to mention I heard through the grapevine that David Cross was guest-starring at some point? But that might be another project), will it produce a great show? Obviously, its hard to get attached to a show so early on the series since the show itself is still trying to find its voice. HOWEVER, I have high hopes for this one... and I'm hoping that Keri Russell doesn't ruin it. I don't know why, but I'm worried about her. BUT. I've never seen Felicity so I guess I can't judge.

I also can't help but be a little worried about he story itself. In the trailer there seems like enough to make a solid pilot, but it doesn't really say where the story is going to go from there. I am really interested to see if Hurwitz is able to bring back the same AD magic.

if not... I guess I can look forward to the AD movie.

Thank you, 24

OK. wow I haven't been blogging because I suck, and I was lazy on vaca. BUT. Before we move on to a new season of wonderful television, I need to discuss 24. I know its about 4 months too late... but what the hell.

A chapter of my life is over. I have been a devout follower of 24 for its entirety and I have to say, a little piece of my heart broke forever when it finally ended that monday evening.

But, was the finale good? Yes.

In the end, it wasn't that depressing because there is going to be a movie... followed by a probable sequel. So Jack Bauer lives on to fight another day.

In my perfect world, Jack Bauer would have died during the last episode. In my mind, there is no way that Jack Bauer will ever obtain the peace he has always been searching for if he's alive on this earth. Jack's tried to escape at the end of every finale. He's traveled to Africa, been taken prisoner in China... even faked his own death and retreated to Mexico. Yet, he comes back every season... a bittersweet reminder that he'll never be at peace.

Even though there is going to be a movie... then another one, I really hope that the writers find it in their hearts to just kill Jack Bauer at SOME point where he can finally get the peace he's been fighting for.

BUT ANYHOO, he didn't die. BUT, it was a GREAT finale. All the characters shined in their final moments.

Gotta love Dalia Hassan. She's been such a strong character all season. Way to hold it up for President Hassan, but what's a gal to do when she gets threatened with nuclear invasion? The confrontation scene between her and President Taylor is amazing, a highlight within the first hour.

Besides Logan and Palmer, one of my favorite Presidents throughout the whole series. For the past two seasons Allison Taylor has gone through family drama, divorce... and the dangerous Logan influence. Of course, in typical 24 fashion, just when it seems like a characters going to go one way... BAM. I was almost convinced that she would go through with the peace treaty, but like the Allison Taylor I know and love, she came through in the clutch. Her advise for Jack to flee the country, as Russia AND America will be looking for him was AGAIN a painful reminder that Jack Bauer will never rest... but a great way to end the series.

Then, of course. There's Chloe. As Jack looks up at her from the satellite, exclaiming he never thought she'd be there for him for all those years, I couldn't help but agree. As everyone was getting killed off in the typical 24 style, I was waiting to see what would happen to Chloe... but she just stood there, scowling. Yet, she became such a central character to the series, a trustworthy right hand man for Jack. It would be difficult for any loyal fan to not get a LITTLE teary-eyed as Jack and Chloe said their final (but probs not) goodbyes.

OH HEY, remember when she shot Jack? Who didn't jump there, eh?

My favorite villain throughout the entire series. No one played bad and sneaky like Gregory Itzin in a character he will take with him through the rest of his career. In my opinion, he made the episode plain and simple, and I nearly screamed and jumped right out of my chair when I was CONVINCED he killed himself. I couldn't help but be a LITTLE disappointed when later on in the episode it was explained that he would survive with brain damage, but will quickly forgive producers only if they bring him back in the movie. Thank you, Charles Logan, and if you don't go down in TV history as one of the greatest characters to face the small screen, I will be extremely upset.

GAH. Jack. I really could write forever about this guy. But I have to say, throughout all seasons I had never really seen him snap in the way he did after Renee Walker died, and who could blame him. The third woman in his life to be snatched away from him, from Terri to Audrey then Renee, it seems as though Jack was never able to find love and he wasn't going to let this one slide. Thoughout the last two hours Jack seemed to have this emptiness in his eyes, this knowledge that he has nothing to lose.

Also: biting off Jason's ear? Hilarious. What a great reference to biting out that guy's jugular in the infamous scene during the 5th (?) season premiere.

BUT. I have to say, I did get a little frustrated. I mean, what about Kim? and little Terri? Way to lose sight on things Jack.

Besides that, being able to watch the journey of Jack Bauer has been amazing. Throughout everything he's been though he is still able to come through the other side, keeping sight of what's important. He is a true hero in television, and will greatly be missed.

Thanks again 24, see you in a couple years :-D

Thank you, Lost

At first, I completely hated the Lost finale. Just sitting there, jaw to the floor, I couldn't believe that was how they were ending this absolutely amazing series. It has taken me this long to write about it because from that point forward, I began thinking and researching about this absolutely epic two and a half hour finale.

Finally, after HOURS of tossing and turning at night (thanks J.J. Abrams), I have come to the conclusion that the lost finale... was... GOOD. Not perfect, not absolutely horrible, but good, maybe even great. Will I ever love it? probably not. But, it left me with a satisfying feeling to the end of what has been to a historic show.

So. The show was about two and a half hours long, which might have been a little unnecessary for what they basically accomplished. If they were giving us the answers to every since Lost question, which they of course didn't, than that's one thing. However, they really were just giving us one general idea so the show ran a little long for me. BUT. Most of the episode was centered around all those who weren't able to see the connection to the island before, have now finally seen the light (I'M HILARIOUS). Sun, Jin, Kate, Locke, Claire, Sawyer and Juliet, all had extremely emotional realizations, and of course, Jack which tied the whole show together.

However, on the island there was a lot more action. Jack killed the Smoke Monster in what has to be one of the most ridiculously epic fights of all time. This was happened when Desmond uncorked the light, and while Richard Alpert begins to age (with his first grey hair) and the smoke monster is no longer invincible. And then what happens? Kate makes herself relevant for THE FIRST TIME and KILLS THE SMOKE MONSTER. Are you serious Lost? Kate is just the mole on the face of the show for SIX SEASONS until the finale when she kills the number one bad guy? I don't know whether to love you or hate you. But either way, it was kind of funny.

The pilot, Miles, and Richard Alpert miraculously get that plane to work and take them, Kate, Sawyer and Claire (who decided to stop being crazy) with them.

However, Hurley, Jack and Ben decided to stay behind and fix the light, which due to the uncorking was showing signs of Hell coming through, and obviously going to destroy the island.

In the end, Hurley becomes the new Jacob, for Jack knows he has to die. Ben decides to stay on the island to help Hurley... and Desmond goes home? I don't know that wasn't really clear.

However, back in the real world, everyone who knows is acting funny. They seem like they "know something" and talk about a "place" where everyone is meeting. It is not until Kate meets up with Jack and convinces him to follow her to a church... where supposedly everyone is inside. HOWEVER, in one of the weirdest parts, as everyone walks in BEN decides to not go in!

As Jack enters through the back entrance of the church he encounters his dad's coffin and it is there he finally remembers. As he opens the casket, its empty, and turns around to find his dad, all sorts of alive. BUT... he's not. HE'S DEAD and so is Jack (and everyone else). And we all find out... THE PARALLEL UNIVERSE WAS PURGATORY. Oh. My. Goodness. The audience sees SOME of the Oceanic Flight and Desmond/Penny entering into a bright light. The finale scene though is back on the island... where Jack lays dying next to vincent (bring on the tears) and the camera cuts close to his eye closing.

WOOSH. I bet I gave that recap NO justice. BUT. here are my revelations/questions:

Questions:

-So Desmond gets to go into the light but no Miles, Richard, Farraday, or the pilot? Why??

-WHERE WAS WALT? I get why no michael but why no walt?

-Why did Eloise care so much about not getting everyone together? Remember way at the beginning of the season she warned Desmond to not let Charlie get on stage or SOMETHING like that? Why does she care so much?

-So wait, what was the deal with Charles Whitmore? was he not important at all?

-Why THAT island? We still don't know why its important! What does the light have to do with the rest of the world? Why should we care if it destroys the island?

Revelations:

-Ben did not go into the church because he needed to figure a few things out in purgatory because he wasn't a GREAT guy in his time on earth (he had his daughter killed remember)

-MICHAEL did not go into the church because he was stuck on the island as a spirit, he was also kind of a bad guy anyway (he killed two people)

-Aaron was there, and not Sun and Jin's daughter, because it was Aaron being born that would bring both Kate and Claire into the light

-I never really cared about that polar bear anyway.

-The cork that held the light in = the island is a cork to the MIB's wine and Jacob's bottle theory.

-Lost is a character-driven show... which is not what I thought at first. I truly believed that the show was about a plot, about this "island" in which the characters were engulfed by. However, from this finale I learned that the most important part of this show, and what has been for the past six years, was completely about the characters and THEIR stories and RELATIONSHIPS. No wonder they all sat next to their partner when being brought into the light. This show was not really following the island as it was more following Jack, and his obstacles of bringing everyone together.

-The Lost finale ended like every other episode did, filled with questions that are open to interpretation. It stayed true to what it was the whole time and never faltered. I totally understand why people are upset, why that island? But honestly, it's because we have been fooled. Maybe the island hasn't been important all along, but again, it was just a pawn in the story of the relationships these people have formed, a common area that connects them all together. It may be hard to swallow but at the end of the day, having closure to the CHARACTERS is probably one of the best ways for the show to end.

OH HEY Greys

I haven't watched Grey's Anatomy in YEARS. I believe the last time I watched it was maybe four years ago? Wow.

Basically, its because the storyline got a little TOO crazy for my taste. Its like, a half step higher than a soap opera with all the hookups, breakups, and meltdowns which is fun every once in a while, but enough to follow it religiously? no thanks.

But, after reading about six thousand facebook updates and like, eight posts on Perezhilton, I had to wonder about last night's episode.

I had heard for a few days it was going to be an intense episode based around a gunman seeking revenge on dr. webber, mcdreamy, and lexi for "killing" his wife. It seemed pretty interesting, but Greys has done these sort of heartfelt episodes (circa the suicide bomber, superbowl episode), so I didn't think it was too special.

However, after finally convincing myself to watch the two hour event, I was extremely glad I did. This episode will probably go down as one of the most well written, heart-wrenching, sit-at-the-edge-of-your-seat television events of all time. Shonda Rhimes out does herself again with something that should not be missed.

Every member of the cast had a "potential emmy" moment. And how good was Mandy Moore? I forget that she can act. Chandra Wilson once again outshines the rest of her castmates in what was one of the hardest plotlines to watch. Sandra Oh and Ellen Pompeo have great chemistry and work very well off each other. Here is Patrick Dempsey in one of his shining moments:

In the end, Meredith has a miscarriage. Derrick Shepard gets shot but lives, the gunman kills himself, and many people die.

Some points:

- What a startling conversation between the Mr. Clark (the gunman), and Dr. Webber about gun laws and suicide. I'm not sure if Shonda Rhimes was trying to send an anti-gun message but that's what it looked like to me

-How awkward was Karev calling Lexi IZZIE! guh. I haven't seen too many episodes but I know of the katherine heigl drama and know she's gone and definitely know its awkward.

-OWEN CHOOSES: Christina! and not AUDREY (j/k... teddy)

-When Charles Percy died... I cried. oh yes, I cried

-I'm sorry... but April was extremely annoying. Gosh I'm so insensitive.

WHO IS THE FREAKIN' ACTOR THAT PLAYED MR. CLARK? I can't find a picture or name or ANYTHING.

Will this episode make me watch Greys next season? Idk. Probably not? But it was great and one to be noted. Nice, Greys
