LIVE from 30 Rock!

http://justjared.buzznet.com/headlines/2010/07/30-rock-live-episode.jpg

So What did everyone think of the LIVE 30 Rock episode last thursday??

It was definitely... interesting. Changing the style of filming from single camera to multi-camera with a studio audience changes the entire feel of the show and can do a lot to the comedy. Writing for a single camera is A LOT different than a multi-camera.
Evidence is the Tina Fey stand in for the cutaways, props to Julia Louise Dreyfus.

But was it a triumphant effort on the part of 30 Rock. Keeping true to a lot of the schticks and bringing in the best guest stars, Matt Damon, Jon Hamm, Rachael Dratch, Chris Parnell, Bill Hader... did I miss anyone? Sometimes 30 Rock goes a little TOO crazy with its guest stars. Its hard to keep up.

I have to say, the audience laughter through me WAY off within the first few minutes. So much so that when Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey were spewing jokes that I KNEW were funny, I just wasn't laughing. Bottom line, it was really hard to get into the mindset I usually have when watching these shows, its not like SNL where they are writing jokes FOR a studio audience, I think it was hard for some of the actors to get into the set of: funny joke, laughter, PAUSE for laughter, continue.

Also, did anyone else think that Jack McBrayer's Kenneth was on crack or something? He seemed to have the hardest time switching from single to multi camera.

But again, even though this live episode wasn't my favorite, I have to give them credit. They did a great job, and even switched up some jokes between Eastern and Pacific live tapings. Plus, it was a pretty good plotline and all of the guest stars were hilarious.

However, according to this lovely article, once again 30 Rock pulls out the punches for no reward. They are still having a hard time getting the ratings they deserve, being beaten out by Grey's Anatomy, The Mentalist, and... Shit My Dad Says?

OK, for the record, even though I put it on my schedule, I've only seen that show ONCE. And it was... ok? William Shatner has to do more than wearing just a fishing vest to make me laugh. Maybe it'll pull a Two and a Half Men and do nothing for me but still be like, the highest rated comedy of all time. It has potential, but not enough to beat out 30 Rock though.

So I guess we'll see what happens. I'm sure NBC won't cancel it, but its still sad that after 4 seasons its still not catching on.

C'MON PEOPLE. that is all.

Why Not??

http://www.bryanreesman.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/infphoto_936674_courtney_cox_busy_philips_cougar_town.jpg

What's going on with one of my new favorite shows from last season??

Cougartown apparently isn't doing too well. Only time will tell if the new DIVORCE (what?!) drama will bring any attention to the show.
But APPARENTLY, according to my random tv source Perez Hilton: ratings are down, WAY down.
From last week, ratings were way down to 7.2 million viewers with their target audience, adults 18-49.

Of course that's what Perez says

I mean, is it doing THAT poorly? I was researching ratings numbers for Modern Family, and found an article featuring Cougartown's ratings in January around last year. It grew 10 percent in viewers jumping to number two for adults 18 to 49, getting a 3.1/9 for wednesday night.
For its spring finale Cougar Town received 2.5/7 rating for adults 18-49

For me, its kind of hard to understand the whole concept of ratings. Even though its not doing as well, do we have to count it out already? There's only been four episodes, and its still a fairly new show.

But why would people stop watching? For me, its a fun, consistent, and cutesy show and if you watch enough episodes, you kind of feel like your watching a big inside joke, since they reference so many previous plot points in current episodes.

SIIIGH. Who knows. Normally I'm never wrong about shows that stay around. Well, WATCH TONIGHT. It's good, I promise.

Taking it Old School

SO. As I was getting ready to head out the door for class, I decided to enjoy the gift that VH1 keeps giving: late 1990 SNL episodes.
This morning's episode featured Gwyneth Paltrow and the Barenaked Ladies (talk about 1998 huh?). Paltrow's monologue was actually pretty funny: she came out and began speaking in a British accent. A couple members of the audience came forward to confront Paltrow on why she was doing such a thing, (including former flame, Ben Affleck). However, even though I didn't notice a thing the FIRST time I watched this sketch so many years ago, this morning was different. The second woman that asked Paltrow was she was doing was none other than: TINA FEY.

HELLS YES. And she was practically unrecognizable. Short hair, a LITTLE chubbier, and MUCH more timid than the hollywood starlet that she has become today.

So as I saw it on TV, I freaked out and frantically tried to find it online, or at least a PICTURE of what she looked like. All I could find was this transcript with her name on it:

http://snltranscripts.jt.org/98/98lmono.phtml

I was also able to find this ONE picture of her from the 90s, which is pretty close to how she looked on the show.

Can you believe it? From a writer on SNL to a Hollywood movie actress and star of her own TV show. What a transformation and a great little blast from the past.

33 days until...

My new favorite show of all time.
I love you, CoCo. See you soon beautiful.

Word to the wise: read twitter.com/conanobrien. Absolutely hysterical.

Better watch out, 'cause your about to get BIEBERED

They kind of look the same, don't they?

SO. Turns out Punk'd is due for a triumphant return. THIS time its with Justin Bieber as Hostess!
Doesn't he also have a 3D movie about his life in the works? What else is this guy doing?
Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg are back as executive producers and the talk of the town is the show will probably begin episodes sometime next year.
Its nice to see the show have the same "feel" but with a different face to bring in new fans. It would have been interesting to see Ashton Kutcher try to come back as host while all these pesky "cheating" rumors are swirling through Hollywood.
But. Justin Bieber seems to have the same type of hilarious charm Ashton did when he first started the show, and just like Ashton, celebrities can't seem to stay mad at JBiebs.

In other news, Wonder Woman + David E. Kelley = NEW TV SERIES.
YES! Finally Wonder Woman is coming back as a new and improved television series from the genius behind Ally McBeal, David E. Kelley. He has a thing for female centered shows, so this will be very interesting to watch.
Apparently the big question is, will this show be centered around the older look of Wonder Woman, or this apparently "new, rebooted" look. Will a Lasso of Truth be involved? I guess we can only wait and see.
Also, look out SOMEDAY for this mysterious Wonder Woman movie that has been in the works for at LEAST a few years now! COME TIME WARNER. WE WANT LYNDA CARTER
... seriously.

But for now, do something I haven't done in YEARS. literally. : Watch Punk'd!
WARNING: POOR QUALITY. FUCK YOUTUBE

Is it Just Me?

Or...
http://www.bopmyspace.com/image_2/lauren_velez

Does Lt. Maria Laguerta (Lauren Velez) from Dexter look VERY similar to...

http://www.bisaidso.com/www.vainstyle.com/?paged=8

Agent Wallowski (Monique Gabriela Curnen) from Lie to Me! And they are practically the same character: tough talking Latina police officers.

... Just saying. Gosh I watch too much tv

i love dexter morgan

http://coolspotters.com/characters/dexter-morgan

Gosh. I could write my own blog with how dreamy this guy is.
Maybe its his cool demeanor, or maybe its his perfectly pressed bright colored polos
... or maybe because he acts like he has something to hide.

He's my television crush and since the past two episodes of the new season have gone by, I've become completely obsessed.
It must have something to do with the fact that in a rare moment Dexter admitted his true feelings for Rita... love.
That's right, this monster can love.

What a fixerupper for any woman to fall in love with. Now, he's a good looking single dad with a great job in Miami. The classified ad writes itself.

How can Esther give that face such a hard time? Its been a difficult storyline to watch, and I'm hoping that at SOME point there is some resolution between the two characters. How heartbreaking was Dexter and Cody's goodbye? I'm wondering since Dexter admitted his love to Rita, does he feel the same about Cody and Esther?
Also, does anyone else get scared shitless every time Dexter's dad just appears out of midair?

So for now we'll see where this love affair goes, but in the meantime, I will continue to stare at him on my computer screen ( I don't get showtime ) and think about what could be.

Casualties of the new season

Here is a great video I found of a panel from one of MY favorite tv blogs, televisionwithoutpity discussing their least favorite shows of the season so far.

Man, they are really HATING on Running Wilde! Wtf!! I mean, I know its not the greatest show on tv YET, but can we Parks and Recreation this bitch and give it a chance?

But this panel does bring up a good point: Why would Mitch Hurwitz try to get a new show on a network that canceled his brilliant creation? Does Fox just have it out for him?

I guess we'll see where this show takes us. Its on tomorrow but I will not be watching due to a Red Sox documentary that will be on ESPN at 8 about the 2004 series, I'm so lame. BUT, never fear, for there's Hulu afoot, and I will surely catch up.

But, in the meantime, these people provide great insight, so enjoy!

Happy 50th Flintstones!

http://thingsifindfunny.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/flinstones1.gif

And you don't look a day over 27... honestly. Who didn't grow up watching The Flintstones? What a timeless show.
And on that note, who didn't grow up eating Flintstone's Vitamins? So yummy.

Even though it was a cartoon, it did a lot more for television than people think. Not only was it the FIRST show on television to show a couple sleeping in the same bed together (think about it), it also depicted adoption and infertility, Betty and Barney couldn't have children of their own, so they adopted Bamm-Bamm
No wonder it was the first cartoon to be nominated for an Emmy for Best Comedy.

From movies to merchandise and vitamins, the Flintstones are timeless and groundbreaking. There would be no Simpsons and Family Guy without them. I mean, they sold cigarettes for their adult audience! How Mad Men of them.

After multiple spin-offs and cartoon/live action movies later (How great was John Goodman?), they are still relevant in today's society. They moved past the stupid kid bullshit and wrote clever comedy that people of all ages could relate to. They pushed the boundaries in television because they knew they could, and showed how much of an impact a cartoon can make.

What an amazing series, lets relive some of the great moments, shall we?

And of course: the opening and closing credits:

And this is just plain hilarious:
