Thank you, Lost

At first, I completely hated the Lost finale. Just sitting there, jaw to the floor, I couldn't believe that was how they were ending this absolutely amazing series. It has taken me this long to write about it because from that point forward, I began thinking and researching about this absolutely epic two and a half hour finale.

Finally, after HOURS of tossing and turning at night (thanks J.J. Abrams), I have come to the conclusion that the lost finale... was... GOOD. Not perfect, not absolutely horrible, but good, maybe even great. Will I ever love it? probably not. But, it left me with a satisfying feeling to the end of what has been to a historic show.

So. The show was about two and a half hours long, which might have been a little unnecessary for what they basically accomplished. If they were giving us the answers to every since Lost question, which they of course didn't, than that's one thing. However, they really were just giving us one general idea so the show ran a little long for me. BUT. Most of the episode was centered around all those who weren't able to see the connection to the island before, have now finally seen the light (I'M HILARIOUS). Sun, Jin, Kate, Locke, Claire, Sawyer and Juliet, all had extremely emotional realizations, and of course, Jack which tied the whole show together.

However, on the island there was a lot more action. Jack killed the Smoke Monster in what has to be one of the most ridiculously epic fights of all time. This was happened when Desmond uncorked the light, and while Richard Alpert begins to age (with his first grey hair) and the smoke monster is no longer invincible. And then what happens? Kate makes herself relevant for THE FIRST TIME and KILLS THE SMOKE MONSTER. Are you serious Lost? Kate is just the mole on the face of the show for SIX SEASONS until the finale when she kills the number one bad guy? I don't know whether to love you or hate you. But either way, it was kind of funny.

The pilot, Miles, and Richard Alpert miraculously get that plane to work and take them, Kate, Sawyer and Claire (who decided to stop being crazy) with them.

However, Hurley, Jack and Ben decided to stay behind and fix the light, which due to the uncorking was showing signs of Hell coming through, and obviously going to destroy the island.

In the end, Hurley becomes the new Jacob, for Jack knows he has to die. Ben decides to stay on the island to help Hurley... and Desmond goes home? I don't know that wasn't really clear.

However, back in the real world, everyone who knows is acting funny. They seem like they "know something" and talk about a "place" where everyone is meeting. It is not until Kate meets up with Jack and convinces him to follow her to a church... where supposedly everyone is inside. HOWEVER, in one of the weirdest parts, as everyone walks in BEN decides to not go in!

As Jack enters through the back entrance of the church he encounters his dad's coffin and it is there he finally remembers. As he opens the casket, its empty, and turns around to find his dad, all sorts of alive. BUT... he's not. HE'S DEAD and so is Jack (and everyone else). And we all find out... THE PARALLEL UNIVERSE WAS PURGATORY. Oh. My. Goodness. The audience sees SOME of the Oceanic Flight and Desmond/Penny entering into a bright light. The finale scene though is back on the island... where Jack lays dying next to vincent (bring on the tears) and the camera cuts close to his eye closing.

WOOSH. I bet I gave that recap NO justice. BUT. here are my revelations/questions:

Questions:

-So Desmond gets to go into the light but no Miles, Richard, Farraday, or the pilot? Why??

-WHERE WAS WALT? I get why no michael but why no walt?

-Why did Eloise care so much about not getting everyone together? Remember way at the beginning of the season she warned Desmond to not let Charlie get on stage or SOMETHING like that? Why does she care so much?

-So wait, what was the deal with Charles Whitmore? was he not important at all?

-Why THAT island? We still don't know why its important! What does the light have to do with the rest of the world? Why should we care if it destroys the island?

Revelations:

-Ben did not go into the church because he needed to figure a few things out in purgatory because he wasn't a GREAT guy in his time on earth (he had his daughter killed remember)

-MICHAEL did not go into the church because he was stuck on the island as a spirit, he was also kind of a bad guy anyway (he killed two people)

-Aaron was there, and not Sun and Jin's daughter, because it was Aaron being born that would bring both Kate and Claire into the light

-I never really cared about that polar bear anyway.

-The cork that held the light in = the island is a cork to the MIB's wine and Jacob's bottle theory.

-Lost is a character-driven show... which is not what I thought at first. I truly believed that the show was about a plot, about this "island" in which the characters were engulfed by. However, from this finale I learned that the most important part of this show, and what has been for the past six years, was completely about the characters and THEIR stories and RELATIONSHIPS. No wonder they all sat next to their partner when being brought into the light. This show was not really following the island as it was more following Jack, and his obstacles of bringing everyone together.

-The Lost finale ended like every other episode did, filled with questions that are open to interpretation. It stayed true to what it was the whole time and never faltered. I totally understand why people are upset, why that island? But honestly, it's because we have been fooled. Maybe the island hasn't been important all along, but again, it was just a pawn in the story of the relationships these people have formed, a common area that connects them all together. It may be hard to swallow but at the end of the day, having closure to the CHARACTERS is probably one of the best ways for the show to end.

he has a couple good theories about the Lost finale meaning. BUT on a side note: Dear Audience Members, you had the opportunity to ask the Lost cast ANYTHING! "do people get scared to go on a plane with you?" .... .... REALLY? REALLY???? whatever.

SO. this past month its been quite an exciting time for tv. cancellations, renewals, new LINE-UPS

its hard to organize everything BUT... as a TV junkie.. I will try my best

CBS:

CBS has definitely been the most interesting station to watch so far. Holy cancellations batman.

Ghost Whisperer (guh), Numb3rs, Cold Case, The New Adventures of Old Christine (SEINFELD CURSE NOOOOO), Accidentally on Purpose, and Gary Unmarried.

GOOD FOR THEM. cutting right down to more focus on better shows such as Big Bang Theory, How I Met your Mother, and spending a reportable 2 million per episode salary on Charlie Sheen for what is just the most mind-boggling show on television, Two and a Half Men. Seriously, I haven't met ONE person who religiously watches that show... yet its the number one sitcom in television TODAY.

whatevs.

BUT. What is CBS trying to do? Get all up in NBC's shit and creating their own kick-ass thursday night lineup. Thursday night has been historically the number one night for tv (the worst? SATURDAY night). NBC has prided itself on its "must-see tv" lineup consisting over the years of The Cosby Show, Cheers, Friends, Fraiser and Will and Grace, consistently being number one in the networks for its timeslot.

However, it seems as though ever since Friends went off the air, this precious NBC juggernaut has faulted. Yes, The Office is great and brings in most of the viewers, BUT, other great shows such as Community and 30 Rock only average half the viewers say... The Big Bang Theory?

SO. CBS is up for the challenge and creating their own thursday night "must see tv" with The Big Bang Theory at 8 p.m. followed by the new show *&%$ my dad says at 8:30, CSI at 9, and finally The Mentalist at 9:30. All these shows (well who knows about the new one... but its getting a lot of buzz) have a great following, but will it bring CBS to a new level? lets see

SO. *&^% my dad says... really... like, really? Yeah, that's the title. I'm all down for this concept: William Shatner is a "politically incorrect" retired dad. Do we all know one of those? yes. Is William Shatner hilarious? yes? So... will it be successful? YES.

But the name? The name of a show can really make it. 24 means that the plot of the show's season goes on for 24 hours in one day, Lost means that the viewer is lost from the pilot to the show's finale. They are easy, quick, catchy titles that I believe help make a show a success. But apparently, they are going to bleep the first word, obviously "shit", on television every time they announce the show.

clever marketing? or dumbest thing I've ever seen. Again... we'll see

It's been a while SPOILERS!!!

OK. so. I'm totally ready to start blogging over the summer again. WHO IS PUMPED!! I am.

Its about three weeks left until my two favorite shows leave the television world forever =[. Lets review their latest episodes shall we?

LOST

SPOILER ALERT

IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE EPISODE AIRED 5/12/10

BE WARNED

Alrighty! So its all about... a "light." But not just any light- the light that controls all that there is on the island: life, death, rebirth. Its the warmest, most beautiful light that any man has known- so much so that everyone tries to take it. However, if one goes into the light, horrible, smoke-y things will happen to them. From the reaction of facebook friends after the episode, I guess this has a mixed reaction.

But for me, I loved this episode. Granted I can't say that I've been a huge Lost fan ever since the beginning, but it gave me a lot of insight to who Jacob and the Man in Black are. So far it seems as though Jacob has been made out to be this calm, worldly, all-knowing being... which he is, but this episode shows him in a not-so-glorious light (ha). In this episode, Jacob seems weak, naive, loyal, and submissive; while the MIB fares much better. I sympathized with him, felt for him, and almost hated Jacob when he killed him. I mean, come on, your mother WAS crazy.

But was the crazy really all for good? What is the light's significance across the world? Does it harness ALL of the world's life... or just the islands?

What did I hate about the episode? Yes, some of the acting wasn't something you would call... "good." I think the mother's death was probably one of the most hilarious things I have ever seen in my life... but what did she mean when she thanked MIB for killing her? It seemed as though she hated watching over that light and didn't feel bad at all giving the job to Jacob.

Also: I'm sorry J.J. Abrams but that little flashback proves nothing about how you knew the whole scheme from the beginning. I mean, I'm totally down to believe that he and the writers knew what was going on, but the rocks and the dead man and woman didn't really do it for me. Plus, reports say that Ben's character wasn't even suppose to last more than a few episodes, then with fan reaction, he stays until the end. That's totally improvising... how am I suppose to trust you haven't done that the whole season?

Nevertheless, I love this show and I'm totally down for the light concept. I feel as though there is more to tell about it and I'm excited for the last couple weeks *tear*

Another pretty decent episode, getting ready to end the series on an intense note. Unfortunately, Jack has to survive for the freakin' movie, BUT, i'm excited because its not going to be a happy-go-lucky ending. And from the looks of NEXT week's episode with a confrontation with Charles Logan, who knows what'll happen.

-Thank GOODNESS Dana died. I was waiting for it and was hoping Jack wasn't going to cop out. We are starting to see a mixture of old Jack, and this new side of him which he has never gone to before. Lets discuss how Dana's death was VERY similar to Nina's death back in season... 3? It had to be obviously, for both Dana and Nina were involved in killing two loves of Jack's life... very symbolic.

-Guh, I HATE Logan's bitch boy.... his name escapes me but anyone who watches the show knows who I'm talking about. His character just bothers me in general... which I guess is good.

-Thank goodness Milo has balls now

-I'm just so disappointed in the President. I wish she could just dig herself out of this hole she's gotten herself into. How awkward was it watching Logan proposal to get her to say something good about him on air? So slick...I love it.

-One again Gregory Itzin is amazing

-It was so weird to see Jack torturing this Russian operative. It was different, you (the viewer) really started to see how Jack has lost it. How killing Renee, after all eight seasons, was the one thing that sent him over the edge. What was different about Jack was that he was not like the evil guys, killing without mercy, but now its different and a little scary.

RIP Dana... you bitch

BASICALLY, I'm excited to see how the finales go. Get yo' popcorn ready.

So basically I've come to the point where I absolutely refuse to get into details about Lost, since I am really just trying to catch up with the past five seasons going into this one, but I'm slowly getting a grip on what is important/ symbolic

1. the fact that one of the final episodes of Lost airs on 4/20... because you need to be high to understand any of it?

2. Jin and Sun's reunion was as beautiful as I thought it would be... except what the hell was up with that pitiful wide shot? As they are running towards the electromagnetic beams my roomie and I are SCREAMING because we thought they were gonners.

3. Jack saves Locke in the real world... yet Locke saves Jack on the island... hmmm

4. Claire and Sayid both show signs of some sort of soul when Kate and Desmond mention loved ones, maybe the theme "love conquers all" will be the big twist at the end.... ha

5. Does anyone else think somethings up with Jack's son? Its weird having him be all nice and friendly with dear old dad, I just don't trust him.

6. I am still trying to figure out Whitmore's role in all of this, I never understood his part from the beginning and I surely don't get it now.

I'm also still trying to find a decent Lost blog that A. I can understand (because that's been difficult, they are all so cluttered and unreadable, I hate it) and B. can spell out different theories and engage me in all sorts of thought. I will be racing to post the sight as soon as I find one suitable for THIS blog, yeeeah.

Also: NO LOST NEXT WEEK WTF ABC?!?!?!?!?!??! HOW CAN YOU DO THIS TO US?!

Yeah, this post is going to be pretty short about Lost because honestly, I never got a handle on the Desmond/Penny storyline. My fellow Lostians say its pretty much its own story, and hard to wrap your mind around if you haven't been watching.

I realized how much fun it is to watch your favorite shows in a group. To instantly have a group of your peers to discuss angles of the show and possible answers to some of the series' big questions is really fun.

BUT BE WARNED: do not turn into me- an asshole who talks way too much during the show. And if you think I'm bad, just think how I must feel towards those I think talk to much, its bad. So yeah, discuss away... during commercials.

But basically, the show was just o.k. It was fun to see the adorable Desmond and the great relationship he has with Penny. And how him and Charles Widmore are friends WHAT and he's married to that weird-o woman and Farraday is back and won't stop talking about a BOMB of some sorts WHAT.

But it got a little TOO into the parallel lives storyline and not enough island action? but:

NEW LOST THEORY: near death experiences in the regular parallel life leads people to see into the island life. Happened with Desmond, Charlie (loooove him) and Farraday. Lets see how this goes.

Its too exhausting to talk about Lost. I hate it so much sometimes. I'd rather have a face to face conversation about it.

Check out the Lost website. Its become an example of how networks are just totally cashing in and hyping in on their own shows. Here is a Lost "starter kit" for idiots like me who don't know whats going on. On the ABC Lost website, there are interactive areas to help viewers get up to speed on whats happening, and viewer discussion boards so everyone can share their opinion.

I feel kind of like a fake Lost fan because I JUST started watching it during its last season.

But, to my credit, I watched the first season THEN I watched the hilariously confusing "catch up" show the hour before the final season premiere.

So basically, I'm a huge Lost fan.

Its really exhausting talking about Lost, so I won't go into detail. Plus, there are about a billion lost super-fan bulletin boards that give away big secrets and decode everything important. But basically from the episode that aired on march 30th 2010, Sun and Jin AREN'T married, but in fact in a secret relationship kept from Sun's every so important father, Sayid intersects with their lives in this parallel universe, and DESMOND, oh desmond. I totally forgot about that guy. I tried researching about him online but was of course confused.

Idk, I felt like this episode didn't do as much justice to the final season as last week's beautiful Richard episode. I mean, did we really find out anything profound about Sun and Jin?

Lost fans: enlighten me.

AND ON ANOTHER NOTE: was it just my tv that didn't show scenes from next week's episode? Doesn't network television know that this is the most crucial and exciting part to any superfan's television experience? WTF ABC.

EDIT: So, apparently why its important that Sun and Jin aren't married is because in this parallel life, Sun is not technically a Kwon so there is a GREAT possibility that she's not a candidate. DAMN. Thanks Lost fanatics

I guess it'll just heighten the surprise factor of what's to come for next week! I'm pumped.

I'm addicted

OK. so maybe I'm just being grumpy because I am still procrastinating on the eight page paper now due TOMORROW (GAH). But I am in TERRIBLE mood because this week from hell, aka midterms up my anus, is causing me to miss all of my shows. I guess I should outline my tv schedule just to show how much of an addict I am:

Sunday: American Dad, Family Guy
Monday: 24
Tuesday: Lost
Wednesday: Cougartown
Thursday: The Office, maybe 30 rock or Community
Friday-Saturday: reflection period

On the count of my busy paper-writing, project dispensing schedule, I have already missed 24 and will presumably miss Lost, which if of course unacceptable since Lost and supposedly 24 are in their last seasons.
Yes, there is the magic of Hulu, but its not the same. I love feeling that sense of community when you are watching the final moments of a fresh, unopened package of your favorite show. When you miss it, its like everyone knows a secret you don't. Plus, as much as we love the convenience of watching our favorite shows online, lets ask the serious question: is the small computer screen at ALL comparable to a beautiful surround-sound HD quality of the newest television sets? NOT. THE. SAME.
It also sucks because since I have this crazy jammed packed schedule, it has now been over 24 hours since... 24 premiered.
HAVENT' WATCHED IT
If you a fan, keep your filthy secret-spilling, surprise-killing mouth away from me. Let me watch my beautiful Jack Bauer in peace.
AND WHATEVER YOU DO: NO, I DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS ON LOST.
