Lets's Try Again, COCO

So yes, as an avid coco fan since his days on Late Night, I am SUPER pumped for his new show tonight, Conan.

I'm not really sure what to expect. I know Max Weinberg's not there, I know Joel Goddard isn't there (and hasn't for a while), but I do know that Andy Richter, most of the writers and staff, and mr. coco himself will be there (obviously).

So why am I still nervous?

I guess I'm still not over the initial letdown of the Tonight Show. DON'TGETMEWRONG- I really did support Conan and I thought NBC's decision to let him go was absolutely ridiculous, but I couldn't get over the fact that it wasn't the same. It seemed a little forced. Not as goofy.

But with rumblings and rumors of the return of the masturbating bear, the fact that he IS on cable, and the fact that he has A LOT to prove, could be proof for a new turn for Conan.

Bottom line- I'm excited. I'm hoping for the best but I won't get my expectations too high.

for a great article by my favorite- tvsquad for what they think about what should happen with Conan's show.

I have to say, I agree with most of it. DO get guests who are down to be funny (in the year 2000 type gags). DO command the stage, and DO keep booking great bands.
But on the opposite side- DON'T keep making fun of Jay, you can do that on your own when your ratings show. DON'T try too hard with dull and boring guests.

But in my mind I have my own list as well:

DO keep things goofy. The way Conan recovers from failed jokes? THAT'S what drew me to him as my preferred late night talk show host.

DON'T make your stage too big. Was anyone else bothered by how big his stage was? He seemed almost lost on stage and with his 300+ seated audience. Utilize your small space and love it!

DO more skits IN studio. I love the taped specials but I felt like you were doing them EVERY NIGHT on the tonight show. I use to love coco and andy being goofy within the studio.

DON'T keep the beard. please please please please please shave the beard. please

SEE YOU TONIGHT CONE-SY. Good luck :-D

CONAN O'BRIEN

OK. bignews.
Conan O'Brien has just announced that he is beginning his run, once again, as a late night talk show host at 11 p.m. on TBS.
This is HUGE because:
1. most people were speculating that he was going to sign a deal with Fox, who obviously did not think he would have been profitable enough... idiots.
2. TBS= cable. There is no determined audience because not everyone has access to cable television (shock).
3. 11 p.m. puts him more in competition with Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert instead of Leno and Letterman- considering Stewart, Colbert, and Conan are all good friends and they share a relatively similar audience, I wonder how this will all pan out.

Personally, I don't know how I feel about this. I mean, he's becoming George Lopez' lead-in, which is ridiculous. Love Lopez, but, compared to Conan.... he's nothing. Plus, TBS? really? A network filled with reruns and Tyler Perry shows? C'mon coco you can do betterrrrr
Now I have to choose between Daily Show, Family Guy, AND Conan. Of course, my choice will always be cone-sy, but still, its a hard choice to make.
I guess we'll see how this goes, I'm hoping he really makes the comeback of a lifetime- he deserves it.
In the meantime, check out one of my favorite finds on youtube, a behind the scenes look at the weird short story arch of Stewart, Colbert, and Conan all wanting to kill eachother... i forget the details. This is a behind the scenes look of the final battle sequence. Comedy gold.
